Like the tomato, this tree belongs to the Solanaceae family.
Sometimes it grows as a small tree, sometimes as a large shrub, and reaches a maximum height of 2 to 4 meters.
The leaves are simple and large (30 cm), turning yellow during the dry season and falling off in winter.
Its lush white and fragrant flowers, hung in clusters from the trunk, attract bees.
The fruits are small (about 1 cm), soft, juicy, orange when ripe, and are held in clusters on long stems.
The flesh is sweet and contains numerous small seeds.
This species is adapted to fertile and moist soils and prefers areas near small waterways.
The tree can be grown in pots using organic loam soils, always covered with organic matter that retains some moisture.
For vigorous flowering and fruiting, the plant requires direct or indirect sunlight.

Fruta de Sabia - die Frucht der Drossel
Dieser Baum gehört wie die Tomate zur Familie der Solanaceae.
Manchmal wächst er als kleiner Baum, manchmal als großer Strauch und erreicht er eine maximale Höhe von 2 bis 4 Metern.
Die Blätter sind einfach, groß (30 cm), verfärben sich in der Trockenzeit gelb und fallen im Winter ab.
Seine üppigen weißen und duftenden Blüten, die in Büscheln am Stamm hängen, locken Bienen an.
Die Früchte sind klein (ca. 1 cm), weich, saftig, im reifen Zustand orange und werden in Büscheln an langen Stielen gehalten. Das Fruchtfleisch ist süß und enthält zahlreiche kleine Kerne.
Es handelt sich um eine Art, die an fruchtbare und feuchte Böden angepasst ist und Gebiete in der Nähe kleiner Wasserläufe bevorzugt. 
Der Baum kann in Töpfen gezüchtet werden, wobei organische Lehmböden verwendet werden, die immer mit organischem Material bedeckt sind, das etwas Feuchtigkeit speichert.
Damit die Pflanze kräftig blüht und Früchte trägt, benötigt sie direktes oder indirektes Sonnenlicht.

Die Früchte sind essbar und werden von Drosseln (daher der populäre Name) und etwa 45 anderen Vogelarten sehr geschätzt. 
Es kann schwierig sein, reife Früchte am Baum zu finden, da sie sofort nach der Reife verschlungen werden! 
Dadurch werden diese Vögel zu natürlichen Verbreitern der Samen der Art.
Aber auch der Mensch schätzt die Sabiá-Frucht, die nicht nur frisch oder in Form von Saft lecker ist sondern auch zur Herstellung von Marmeladen, Gelees und sogar süß-sauren Soßen verwendet werden kann.
Kürzlich zeigten Studien, dass die Blätter der Sabiá-Frucht eine Gruppe chemischer Substanzen (Vitanolide) enthalten, die angeblich krebshemmend wirken und die Möglichkeit einer medizinischen Anwendung bieten.
