We originally bought this plant as a variegated variety, but the variegated portion of the leaves has grown out.
The plant now needs some fertilizer.
Annona squamosa is a tropical delicacy, prized above all for its sweetness.
Taste & Fruit
Aroma: The white flesh is extremely sweet, creamy, and pudding-like.
It is reminiscent of a mixture of pear, banana, and vanilla, often with a delicate floral note.
Consistency: Soft and slightly grainy, almost like semolina.
Eating: Simply break open the ripe fruit and scoop out the flesh.
Cultivation (Location)
In Central Europe, it is not winter-hardy (Zone 10+) and must be kept as a container plant.
Light: A spot in a conservatory or on the brightest south-facing windowsill is ideal. In summer, it appreciates a sheltered spot on the balcony or patio.
Soil: It prefers well-draining soil (e.g., a mixture of cactus soil and compost) to prevent waterlogging.
Watering: The soil should remain consistently moist.
Dehydration quickly leads to the dropping of flowers or leaves. Water significantly less in winter, but never allow the soil to dry out completely.
Overwintering: The plant must be kept in a bright and warm location (ideally above 10°C/50°F).
At cooler temperatures, it often loses its leaves (becoming deciduous).
Pollination: Since natural pollinators are often lacking in this country, artificial pollination can be used with a brush for houseplants to ensure a successful harvest.

Die Pflanze benötigt jetzt etwas Dünger.

Geschmack & Frucht
Aroma: Das weiße Fruchtfleisch ist extrem süß, cremig und puddingartig.
Es erinnert an eine Mischung aus Birne, Banane und Vanille, oft mit einer feinen floralen Note.
Konsistenz: Weich und leicht körnig, fast wie Zucker-Grieß.
Verzehr: Man bricht die reife Frucht einfach auf und löffelt das Fleisch heraus.
Haltung (Standort)
In Mitteleuropa ist sie nicht winterhart (Zone 10+) und muss als Kübelpflanze gehalten werden.
Licht: Ein Platz im Wintergarten oder am hellsten Südfenster ist ideal. Im Sommer freut sie sich über einen geschützten Platz auf dem Balkon oder der Terrasse.
Boden: Sie bevorzugt gut durchlässige Erde (z.B. eine Mischung aus Kakteenerde und Kompost), um Staunässe zu vermeiden.
Gießen: Die Erde sollte stets gleichmäßig feucht bleiben.
Austrocknung führt schnell zum Abwurf von Blüten oder Blättern. Im Winter deutlich weniger gießen, aber nie ganz austrocknen lassen.
Überwinterung: Die Pflanze muss hell und warm stehen (idealerweise über 10 °C).
Bei kühleren Temperaturen verliert sie oft ihre Blätter (ist dann laubabwerfend).
Befruchtung: Da natürliche Bestäuber hierzulande oft fehlen, kann man bei Zimmerpflanzen mit einem Pinsel künstlich nachhelfen, um den Ertrag zu sichern.
