The Olax candida is a very rare fruit plant and comes from the Yasuni National Park in Ecuador.
When this tree was first discovered in 1851 it was called Liriosma acuta.
Back then on the upper reaches of the Rio Negro in Brazil.
It had to take 130 years until it was found again by chance in 1981.
What is remarkable is the thickening at the base of the trunk with the juicy green - I have only very rarely seen something like this.
Today it probably only exists deep in the Amazon and in the Yasuni National Park and you can no longer get in there without a permit.
The fruits are bright orange and very juicy.
I know from a friend that it is almost impossible to eat these fruits when they are ripe because monkeys and birds are always the first to get these fruits.
So if you want something very special in your collection - here is your opportunity.

Die Olax candida ist eine sehr seltene Fruchtpflanze und kommt aus dem Yasuni Nationalpark in Ecuador.
Als dieser Baum 1851 das erste mal entdeckt wurde hat man ihn noch Liriosma acuta genannt.
Damals am Oberlauf des Rio Negro in Brasilien.
Es musste 130 Jahre dauern bis man ihn 1981 per Zufall wiederfand.
Bemerkenswert ist die Verdickung an der Stammbasis mit dem saftigen Grün - so etwas habe ich bisher nur sehr selten gesehen.
Heute gibt es ihn wahrscheinlich nur noch tief im Amazonas und im Yasuni Nationalpark und da kommt man ohne Genehmigung nicht mehr rein.
Die Früchte haben ein leuchtendes orange und sind sehr saftig.
Ich weiß von einem Freund, dass es fast unmöglich ist diese Früchte reif zu essen da Affen und Vögel immer die ersten sind, die sich diese Früchte holen.
