At the end of October 2023, a Myrciaria with huge fruits was discovered that had never been seen before!
This Myrciaria is called Myrciaria sp. Pastora
Pastora means shepherdess.
Anyone who knows anything about Myrciaria knows that there are only a few with red fruits.
What they all have in common is that the fruits are relatively small.
The best known and most valuable among these red-fruited Myrciarias is the Glomerata.
This is considered a holy grail among collectors and the seeds are expensive and very difficult to obtain.
And now you find this magnificent specimen!
A Myrciaria with red fruits that are twice as large as the fruits of Myrciaria glomerata.
The fruits have a very good taste. Sweet and sour and very aromatic.
This plant was found in the Restinga of São João da Barra, in the very north of the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.
Another small plant, only 60cm tall, was discovered next to the tree.
This plant was already full of fruit.
This means that this tree is likely to fruit quickly.
The soil consists of a large portion of sandy soil.
Restinga is the name given to the areas near the beach in Brazil.

Diese Myrciaria heißt Myrciaria sp. Pastora
Pastora bedeutet Schäferin.
Wer sich etwas mit Myrciaria auskennt, weiß, dass es nur wenige mit roten Früchten gibt.
Allen gemein ist, dass die Früchte relativ klein sind.
Die bekannteste und wertvollste unter diesen rotfruchtigen Myrciarias ist die Glomerata.
Diese gilt unter Sammlern als heiliger Gral und die Samen sind teuer und sehr schwer zu bekommen.
Und jetzt findet man dieses Prachtexemplar!
Eine Myrciaria mit roten Früchten die doppelt so groß sind wie die Früchte der Myrciaria glomerata.
Die Früchte haben einen sehr guten Geschmack. Süß und sauer und sehr aromatisch.
Gefunden wurde diese Pflanze in der Restinga von São João da Barra, ganz im Norden des brasilianischen Bundesstaates Rio de Janeiro.
Man hat neben dem Baum eine weitere kleine, erst 60cm große Pflanze entdeckt.
Diese Pflanze war bereits voller Früchte.
Das bedeutet, dass dieser Baum wahrscheinlich schnell fruchten wird.
Der Boden besteht aus einem großen Teil sandiger Erde.
Restinga nennt man in Brasilien die Gebiete in Strandnähe.
Überwintern bitte bei mindestens 10 Grad.
Diese Myrciaria zählt zu den größten Entdeckungen in diesem Bereich im letzten Jahr.
