Pradosia sp. "Nova Cacau de Macaco" – A Rare Gem from the Atlantic Rainforest

The genus Pradosia belongs to the Sapotaceae family and remains largely unknown—even in its native country, Brazil.
Many people, even locals, have never heard of this fascinating group of plants.

This newly discovered, yet undescribed species was found in the UNA National Park in the state of Bahia, a biodiversity hotspot within Brazil’s Atlantic Forest biome.

Features:

• A medium-sized tree with beautifully shaped and textured foliage.

• Produces very sweet and flavorful fruits, highly appreciated by those lucky enough to try them.

• Locally referred to as “Cacau de Macaco” (Monkey Cacao), likely due to its fruit appearance or popularity among wildlife.

Die Gattung Pradosia gehört zur Familie der Sapotengewächse (Sapotaceae) und ist weltweit nahezu unbekannt – selbst in ihrem Ursprungsland Brasilien haben viele Menschen noch nie von ihr gehört.

Diese besondere, bisher wissenschaftlich nicht beschriebene Art wurde im UNA-Nationalpark im Bundesstaat Bahia entdeckt – einem Hotspot für endemische Pflanzenarten innerhalb des atlantischen Regenwalds.

Merkmale:

• Wunderschöner Baum mit auffallendem Blattwerk, mittelgroß im Wuchs.

• Früchte süß und äußerst schmackhaft, eine echte Entdeckung für Fruchtliebhaber.

• In Brasilien auch als "Cacau de Macaco" bekannt – "Affenkakao", vermutlich aufgrund der Form oder Beliebtheit bei Wildtieren.

• Aufgrund der kompakten Wuchsform auch sehr gut für die Kübelkultur geeignet.

Pflegehinweise:

• Liebt warmes, feuchtes Klima und geschützte Standorte.

• Leicht saurer, humusreicher Boden wird bevorzugt.

• Bitte bei mindestens 15 °C überwintern – optimal im temperierten Gewächshaus oder Indoor-Dschungel.
