Myrciaria sp. Jaboticaba – a true discovery

Within the genus Myrciaria, some of the most aromatic fruits of the tropics can be found.
Anyone who has ever tasted a perfectly ripe Myrciaria glazioviana knows: these small fruits are pure flavor explosions.
However, experienced collectors report that species such as Myrciaria guaquiea, Myrciaria strigipes, or Myrciaria caerulescens take the taste experience to an even higher level — almost unbelievable, but true.

The newly introduced Myrciaria sp. Jaboticaba combines the best of two worlds in a single fruit: the perfect fusion of Jaboticaba and Guaquiea flavors — intensely sweet, aromatic, and complex. This fruit easily earns a full 10 out of 10 for its outstanding taste.

This new Myrciaria species was only recently discovered by chance during a botanical expedition deep within the Atlantic Rainforest (Mata Atlântica) of Bahia, Brazil. Bahia, larger in area than Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands combined, is a vast, untamed paradise — making the discovery of this tree a true stroke of luck.

Earlier this year, we received a few fresh seeds, which germinated quickly and grew vigorously. Even as young plants, they already display the unmistakable characteristics of classic Jaboticaba, yet seem to grow faster and be slightly less demanding.

Care instructions:
Keep above 10 °C (50 °F) during winter. Provide a bright, sheltered location and water regularly, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged for optimal growth.

Innerhalb der Gattung Myrciaria finden sich einige der aromatischsten Früchte der tropischen Welt.
Wer je die Gelegenheit hatte, eine perfekt reife Myrciaria glazioviana zu probieren, weiß: Diese kleinen Früchte sind wahre Geschmacksexplosionen.
Doch erfahrene Sammler berichten, dass Arten wie Myrciaria guaquiea, Myrciaria strigipes oder Myrciaria caerulescens das Geschmackserlebnis noch einmal übertreffen sollen.
Kaum vorstellbar – und doch wahr.

Unsere nun vorgestellte Myrciaria sp. Jaboticaba vereint gleich zwei dieser fantastischen Aromen in einer einzigen Frucht: Sie schmeckt wie eine perfekte Mischung aus Jaboticaba und Guaquiea – intensiv süß, aromatisch und komplex. Eine absolute Rarität, die geschmacklich mit einer vollen 10 von 10 Punkten bewertet werden kann.

Diese neue Myrciaria wurde erst vor Kurzem zufällig während einer botanischen Exkursion in den dichten Wäldern der Mata Atlântica in Bahia (Brasilien) entdeckt.
Bahia, ein riesiger Bundesstaat, größer als Deutschland, Österreich, die Schweiz und die Niederlande zusammen, ist ein wahres Naturparadies – und die Entdeckung dieses Baumes dort war ein Glücksfall.

Im Frühjahr erhielten wir einige frische Samen, die zügig und kräftig keimten. Schon die jungen Pflanzen zeigen deutlich ihre Verwandtschaft zur klassischen Jaboticaba, scheinen jedoch etwas schneller zu wachsen und weniger empfindlich zu sein.

Pflegehinweis:
Überwinterung bei mindestens 10 °C wird empfohlen. Ein heller, geschützter Standort und regelmäßiges, aber nicht übermäßiges Gießen sorgen für optimales Wachstum.
