It differs from other Medinilla species in that the flowers grow directly at the base of the stem.
The fruits of this species are small but edible and have a pleasantly sour taste with a slight sweetness.
The fruit contains several very small seeds.
It prefers a partially shaded location and humidity above 60 percent.
Grows well in containers and is easy to care for.
