Durio graveolens / Red-Fleshed Durian
Durio graveolens, locally known in Southeast Asia as Durian Merah or Red-Fleshed Durian, is a fascinating and rare wild species belonging to the Mallow family (Malvaceae).
Native to the lush tropical rainforests of Borneo, Sumatra, and the Peninsular Malaysia, it stands out dramatically from the common cultivated durian.
Botanically, this species produces relatively small, spherical fruits densely covered in bright orange-yellow to golden-brown spines that naturally split open on the tree upon maturity.
The absolute visual highlight is the flesh (aril): it features a brilliant, deep crimson-red to raspberry-pink color that creates a striking contrast against the pale inner husk.
In terms of flavor, Durio graveolens offers a rich, creamy texture with a mild, sweet, nutty, and slightly avocado-like taste profile, accompanied by a significantly milder and less pungent aroma compared to Durio zibethinus.
Due to its extraordinary appearance and refined flavor, Durio graveolens is highly prized among exotic fruit collectors and rare plant enthusiasts worldwide.
In cultivation, young plants require a consistently warm, brightly lit environment with high atmospheric humidity.
The substrate must be organic-rich, slightly acidic, and exceptionally well-draining, as the roots are sensitive to excess water.
As a strictly equatorial rainforest species, Durio graveolens is extremely cold-sensitive and must be kept warm year-round at a minimum temperature of 18 to 20 °C (64 to 68 °F).
Vorbestellung - die Lieferung dieser frischen Samen erfolgt Mitte November.
Durio graveolens / Rotfleischige Durian
