Inga sp. "Bananinha" is an extraordinary wild species from the Mata Atlântica of Bahia, named after the striking shape of its fruits.
The pods resemble small bananas in their curvature and compactness, clearly setting this Inga rarity apart from other species.
Botanically, it is suspected to be Inga virescens, a species native to eastern Brazil known for its elegant growth habit.
Beneath the green skin lies the snow-white, cotton-like pulp typical of Ingas, which surrounds the seeds.
This pulp is pleasantly sweet, juicy, and has a fascinatingly fluffy texture reminiscent of cotton candy.
Our photos clearly show the characteristic leaf structure with the winged rachis, typical for this rainforest beauty.
The tree grows quite rapidly and, due to its tolerance for pruning, is excellent for cultivation in large containers or conservatories.
In addition to fruit production, the plant is a top-tier ornamental tree with its delicate foliage and beautiful powder-puff flowers.
For vital growth, the plant requires a bright, warm location and frost-free overwintering at a minimum of 10°C (50°F).

Inga sp. „Bananinha“ ist eine außergewöhnliche Wildart aus dem Mata Atlântica von Bahia, die ihren Namen der markanten Form ihrer Früchte verdankt.
Die Schoten erinnern in ihrer Krümmung und Kompaktheit an kleine Bananen, was diese Inga-Rarität optisch deutlich von anderen Arten abhebt.
Botanisch wird vermutet, dass es sich um die in Brasiliens heimische Inga virescens handelt, eine Art, die für ihre elegante Wuchsform geschätzt wird.
Unter der grünen Schale verbirgt sich das für Ingas typische, schneeweiße und watteähnliche Fruchtfleisch, das die Samen umhüllt.
Dieses „Pulpa“ genannte Fleisch ist angenehm süß, saftig und hat eine faszinierend fluffige Textur, die an Zuckerwatte erinnert.
Auf unseren Fotos lässt sich die charakteristische Blattstruktur mit der geflügelten Spindel erkennen, die typisch für diese Urwaldschönheit ist.
Der Baum wächst recht zügig und eignet sich aufgrund seiner Schnittverträglichkeit hervorragend für die Kultur im großen Kübel oder Wintergarten.
Neben dem Fruchtertrag ist die Pflanze durch ihre filigranen Blätter und die hübschen Pinselblüten auch ein erstklassiger Zierbaum.
Für ein vitales Wachstum benötigt die Pflanze einen hellen, warmen Standort und eine frostfreie Überwinterung bei mindestens 10 Grad Celsius.
