Plinia cf. humaitana / Cambucá-de-ouro (Golden Amazonian Cambucá)
Plinia cf. humaitana, affectionately dubbed Cambucá-de-ouro (Golden Cambucá) by Brazilian botanical collectors, is an exceptionally rare and striking wild fruit species belonging to the Myrtle family (Myrtaceae).
Due to its extreme rarity and brilliant golden coloration, it is famously likened in Brazil to finding a gold nugget in the rainforest.
Botanically, Plinia cf. humaitana forms a small to medium-sized tree reaching up to 8 meters in height, displaying classic cauliflory where flowers and fruits develop directly along the main trunk and primary branches.
Clusters of white blossoms emerge directly from the main stem and scaffold branches, giving rise to smooth, spherical berries that mature into a brilliant, sunny yellow.
The fruits feature an edible peel enclosing translucent, juicy, gelatinous pulp with an outstanding, refreshingly sweet flavor.
For optimal growth of young potted seedlings, Plinia cf. humaitana thrives in a warm, bright setting with filtered sunlight, high atmospheric humidity, and a rich, well-draining, slightly acidic substrate kept consistently moist.
As a true tropical Amazonian species, it is strictly cold-sensitive and must be overwintered in a bright, warm location at a minimum temperature of 15 to 18 °C (59 to 64 °F).
